Cell phone operators scan horizon for 3G content

There are still problems with 3G content ranging from overpricing to limited choice, according to this article in the International Herald Tribune. To a large extent they’re right, but I think we can expect the situation to improve. When television first came out there was only one channel and content was … uncompelling. That quickly changed, and telcos are working to make sure it changes on the cellphone, too. “When we started this, we realized that the major entertainment brands weren’t going to come to mobile without some help,” said Graeme Ferguson, head of content development at Vodafone.
The big question is not whether mobile devices will become an effective channel for content, but who won’t adapt fast enough and hence fall by the wayside.
