‘3G’ won’t be waiting under the tree

The roll-out of 3G networks in the UK is too little too late to ensure a strong take-up for Christmas 2004, according to some analysts. Instead, they predict the growth in wireless products will be driven by higher-end 2G phones which can download music and digital pictures. “I think 3G will be sexy when we have competition and interoperability between the networks. Then real video telephony will start,” said IDC analyst Rosie Secchi.
