The Independent Online’s relaunch is a total overhaul aimed at unfolding the site for users. New navigation allows single-click access from any article to any section in any of the site’s nine channels; articles are displayed in double columns for “improved legibility” with user options reverting to the single-column format and changing font sizes; and a “day on a page” feature that collects every story from every channel for each day of the week. (Memo to the site editors — putting an “e” in front of each day is so ’90s.)
Netimperative notes the redo appears to have left the existing links intact, a wise move to protect search-engine rankings — and, I would add, not incidentally, links from external sites.
