Savannah’s Wi-Fi Infrastructure Could Bring Localized Content

The wireless broadband industry in the city of Savannah has created large areas of free Wi-Fi access, and is dreaming of the day when businesses put themselves online. “For example, if you’re accessing the internet through a specific radio access point here in City Market. By virtue of that we’ll know your location. Then you might have also identified preferences or things that you like and then we can deliver localized content, information about a restaurant, or information about a shop or a tour…you could make a reservation or you can by a ticket. We see that as something that’s going to come about here in Savannah over time as businesses get more and more involved in the network and as people become aware of it and become surfers on the network.”
