Whither Yahoo?

Speculation continues about what the hiring of high-powered Lloyd Braun as media and entertainment czar means for Yahoo’s content future. Check out cNet’s piece by Jim Hu for the latest. Is Braun there to create entertainment or purely to head up vital rights acquisition and management? Does Yahoo want to roll its own creative content or find Internet-only opportunities to mesh with content in other media? One clue: Terry Semel didn’t go to Yahoo to warehouse content — he’s there to create a media universe that will draw people to the site much the way “Desperate Housewives” — greenlighted under Braun’s watch at ABC — is bringing viewers to ABC. Hmmm, maybe Braun could tap the “housewives” for online text/video journals …
