Paypal To Move Into Mobile Payments

First on paidContent.org: PayPal has been available through WAP for some time now, but this is the start of a new venture inside the ubiquitous payment service, it seems. The company is exploring various mobile payment options: “The Mobile Payments team is an entrepreneurial new business within PayPal. Our charter is to make PayPal the global standard for payments made on mobile devices.”

The company is hiring a senior product manager to conceive the project from start to finish…it seems as if the solution would probably be implemented first in more mobile-advanced countries in Europe…

There are several mobile payments initiatives being developed and some in Japan and Europe are far ahead of anything in U.S. at this point. Simpay comes to mind…some other RFID ventures, like the one developed by Visa and Phillips on one hand, and Mastercard and Nokia on the other hand, and now Phillips and Nokia
