Election Wasn’t a Total Loss for Some Dem Bloggers

And it certainly wasn’t a loss for BlogAds‘ Henry Copeland, BusinessWeek Online says “by some estimates, DailyKos was pulling in $20,000 per month advertising at its peak” through BlogAds, which gets a 20% commission. Copeland tells BW’s Sarah Lacy some blogs sell $9,000 of ads per month and that BlogAds is profitable with nine employees. “Many single days this year we have equaled our entire 2003 revenues,” says Copeland. The post-election letdown will take some (most?) of that profit with it but this is still a polarized country and, as Kos says, “Conflict is good for blogs.” Still, if Copeland wants to match or exceed this year’s numbers in 2005, he’ll have to convince advertisers he can sell more than politics on political/issue blogs.
