EU to Formally Object to Microsoft, Time Warner JV

This potentially could be a big blow to ContentGuard: the European Commission plans to send formal charges to Microsoft and Time Warner next week, listing objections to their takeover of ContentGuard…

The EU is concerned the deal could create or boost a dominant position by Microsoft in the market for DRM. The Commission is concerned the deal would also lead to the vertical integration of Microsoft in other markets.

The Commission, which is conducting a four-month investigation of the deal, has a deadline of Jan. 6 to reach a decision.
