(sub. req.) (More details as they come in)
Coinciding with CTIA, Disney is announcing the launch of a mobile content brand, under “Starwave Mobile“..those of you who remember, Starwave has a rather famous history, being bought out by Disney in 1998 (refresh you memory here. Also an Archive.org archive of Starwave.com homepage)…the whole Go.com fiasco etc…
Anyway, the new Disney’s mobile division Starwave Mobile will begin publishing mobile content before year’s end..the twist is that besides Disney’s own content, it will go outside the Mouse House and license third-party content…which in itself is a huge step for the company…
Update: Hollywood Reporter: Trivial Pursuit, Don Bluth’s “Dragon’s Lair” and the popular Korean series “Pucca” are Starwave Mobile’s first licenses. Larry Shapiro, WDIG executive vp and general manager: “It opens up a tremendous growth channel for WDIG, expanding our content lineup in key demographics. And it provides a simple means for third parties to get their mobile titles quickly and widely distributed.”
