Research on Personalized Video Started in EU

The European Union has launched a new $9.5 million project titled “New Media for a New Millennium” (NM2), in an effort to develop production tools that will enable personalized versions of the media. In addition, NM2 will create a “new mechanism for retrieving media content and creating the personalized stories”.

The enabling technologies behind this new form of multimedia storytelling include broadband connectivity, cheap mass storage, intelligence at the edge of data networks, and object-based media techniques…

Seven different media productions will provide the test cases for the NM2 production tools over three years. BT, Sony and Telefonica are among the commercial and academic partners working on this project…
