Why we need rural broadband?

James Carlini an adjunct professor at Northwestern University and president of Carlini & Associates makes a compelling case for the incredible importance of rural broadband has to the future of US economy. “Some community activists and visionaries (not politicians) see the need for high-speed connectivity to remain viable in a global economy and for attracting new businesses to their community,” writes Carlini, “Location, location, location has changed to location, location, connectivity.” While our politicians waffle, flip-flop, and scowl, they miss out the big point that in this new connected economy, the jobs flow to the lowest cost destination, just as money used to flow where ever it could seek highest return. I think it is time to act now, and if government can’t do anything, I am glad to see communities get their act together.
