(sub. req.): Next week, Microsoft will showcase digital home networking devices and technologies…including its much vanuted Janus DRM-enabled devices…
Its Windows Media Connect software will allow TVs, stereos, DVD players and other consumer gadgets to play back digital media stored on PCs running the Windows XP operating system. Consumers will use a remote control to actually move the content around.
It will also showcase the launch of Janus-enabled music devices…the first to hit store shelves, the Rio Carbon, began selling last month and can store five gigabytes of music. The devices enable consumers to download copyrighted music from subscription services such as Napster.
