I was discussing this with a friend two days ago: there’s probably a tons of startups waiting to happen in the on-demand TV interface software space…and VCs will be lining up to fund such ventures. Now InStat expects that the Interactive Program Guides (IPGs) will to grow to nearly $1 Billion by 2008.
On-demand TV users are taking cues from the online world, and a lot still needs to be done. That’s why Comcast CEO and others are talking up search and interface in on-demand TV world…
According to InStat, three key companies will ultimately have the staying power to succeed over the long term in the global IPG space: Gemstar-TV Guide, Microsoft and Tribune Media Services. There will still be sustainable business models for a host of smaller companies who can identify and command key niche opportunities.
