Seems like all the dead dotcoms are being reborn all over the place…this one is under a different owner. Snap.com is being launched as a next-generation search engine…the company is funded and backed by Bill Gross, Idealab founder and man behind commercial search giant Overture Services. Idealab has also funded desktop search company X-1 and Insiderpages.com, a local search and social networking startup.
What’s different about Snap.com is the tools it uses to help a user refine a search once he or she has typed a query into the search box.
Perfect Market Technologies, which owns the product Snap, purchased the rights to the domain name Snap.com from General Electric earlier this year. The former Snap.com, previously the name of a joint venture between CNET and NBC, went out of business in 2001, after the dotcom bust.
