Trip Hawkins on his new venture: “Typically, when a new medium comes along, established companies are interested in preserving the status quo, so they either ignore the new medium or they only try to extend their existing brand into it, and treat it as kind of a low-grade version of what they’re already doing. A lot of the content that’s been developed for mobile so far views a handset as a tiny television or a substandard videogame platform. But if you really want to play a good videogame, you should probably stay home and turn on your Xbox. Since we’re entirely a mobile start-up, and every dollar we make is going to get reinvested in mobile, we have an opportunity to try to find the true heartbeat of mobile as a new medium.”
