Sean Ryan To Leave RealNetworks; Company Restructures Again

It is one of these stories which you know, in your gut, was going to happen sooner rather than later. Sean Ryan, one of the smartest people in the digital music business, and the founder of Listen.com (Rhapsody music service), now part of RealNetworks, is leaving the company. He leaving for something entrepreneurial, that’s for sure…

Meanwhile, RealNetworks is doing some re-jiggering of its business units, again: its RealPlayer and Music Services businesses will be combined into a single unit under Robert Acker, who currently serves as VP of the company’s RealPlayer business. That will mean integrating RealPlayer, the RealPlayer Music Store, RadioPass, and the award-winning Rhapsody service, within a single division.

Real also appointed Niranjan Nagar as GM of Music Services. Nagar came from the original Listen.com executive team, and till now served as GM of Engineering within Real’s Music Services division.
