The Ringtone Royalties Mess in UK

Well, you read about the ringtone royalties mess in U.S. on the front page of WSJ a few days ago…now here’s a description of the UK market. The controversy is surrounding actual song clips as ringtones (call them what you want)…
Labels are making up for lost time on mono and polyphonics… Right now on the web in UK, a sample tone of anything in the Top 10 is likely to cost about 4.50 GBP. This is the most expensive form of music ever created, by a factor of more than 25. An entire album of music priced like that would cost a whopping 400 GBP. And compare that to online song dowloads at 75p and 99p a pop.
If ringtones remain expensive and piracy becomes easier, the market for hooky ringtones will flourish, the story goes on to say.
