NDS Launches Secure Video Processor Encryption; SVP Alliance Launched

NDS, the world’s leading developer of conditional access systems for the pay-TV industry, 78 percent owned by News Corp, has launched a new encryption system, “secure video processor“, could help eradicate illegal copying of pay-TV content a major factor in movie piracy estimated to cost the industry $3.5 billion a year.

Unlike existing encryption or smart card technology used by cable and satellite companies, SVP applies to programming content rather than distribution devices.

Pay-TV operators, including DirecTV and British Sky Broadcasting, both affiliated to News Corp, are considering using the technology.
