In South Africa, more than 100 small companies that provide ringtones, logos and information services to cellphone users have formed a new body to represent their fledgling industry. The Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association (Waspa) will also assess the needs of cellphone users, promote ethical business practices among its members and keep track of international communication trends.
More importantly, it will act as a buffer to protect members who fall foul of legislation by providing them with indemnity from prosecution and covering damages claims brought against them.
