Chinese online game company Shanda Interactive Entertainment is buying the remaining interest that it did not already own in Beijing Digital-Red Mobile Software, or Digital-Red, a developer of games for mobile devices. Shanda had initially purchased a minority stake in Digital-Red on January 13, 2004.
Related: Shanda is trying to re-invent itself as a diversified media company…Shanda will expand its business both organically and through acquisitions, [chairman Timothy Chan] said, adding that long-term goals could include forays in such far-flung industries as movies and music.
The firm has also not ruled out bringing in an outside equity partner with technology or content specialization to complement Shanda’s core game designing and operating businesses.
He said Shanda was also now in talks with a number of major media players, including Vivendi’s Universal Music and Time Warner’s Warner Bros division, about licensing content or other forms of partnerships.
