New Media Age (reprinted on Forbes.com), for some reason, thinks that Siemens’ Music2You (M2Y) division is a new one…it was formed in fall last year. Anyway, some more info on the service: Music2You is a white label online and mobile music service, and is primarily being used by UK telco O2 for its mobile music player and service…
Some interesting data on O2’s music service, which has been met with some justified skepticism: With integrated SX1 music handsets, the active average user downloaded one track per week. When this is scaled up to account for expected growth in penetration of devices and consumer use, [Leslie Golding, director of content and alliances at M2Y] says mobile’s numbers “will dwarf iPod downloads“.
The company’s existing M2Y platform already runs Vodafone’s video service in Germany, as well as online services for T-Online.
The service is designed to be fully handset agnostic and Golding said there was even discussion of dropping the Siemens brand to clarify this issue.
