(reg. req.) Throw tons of public money, and what do you get? A BBC gizmo called the interactive Media Player that will allow license-fee payers to watch programmes at a time and place of their choosing…I’ve covered iMP in some detail on this site before.
But Guardian gushes that this technology “could hold the future of the corporation,” after test-running it. The iMP is similar to BBC’s online radio player, which has seven days of programs archived, for easy listening…At the click of a button, the user can download any programme that has already been aired or mark a forthcoming show for download as soon as it is broadcast.
The company’s using legal P2P distribution for this…the launch of iMP, already deep into technical trials, could be just nine months away…
