Wireless Music: Markets That Won’t Go “Pop”

Another note by Dario Betti, senior analyst at Ovum, on mobile music: “Music downloads remain largely a longer-term investment – we will not see a sizeable installed based of competitive music handsets until 2007. There are strategic reasons, mainly linked to branding benefits, why operators should plan their entry into the music market, despite its small profile in the short term. There will be little money in music download services over the next two years. We expect the market to be worth less than $400 million in Western Europe by 2008.”
