A war is going on among the Hollywood players for the next generation DVD formats, but as DVD sales slow, any delay of next-generation must-haves will cost the studios.
On one side, Sony, along with 12 leading companies in the computer and consumer-electronics industries, is pushing a format called Blu-ray. The competing format is promoted by Toshiba and NEC Corp.
Ask me, and I think the stakeholders are missing the point, long term. The storage will become networked, hence no point in betting your horses on static storage formats…IP-delivery is it, however you want to cut it up.
