Well, the storied past of the non-story DrKoop.com and two other health portals is being revived, sorta…Choice Media, a healthcare information network, and its wholly owned
subsidiary, MDChoice.com, have acquired three health portals.
In 2002, VitaCost paid $186,000 in cash for DrKoop.com’s assets in the bankruptcy courts, which included the brand name, trademarks, domain names, the Web site and the e-mail addresses of its registered users.
Two of the websites — DrKoop.com and DrDrew.com — were acquired by
MDChoice.com, with the purchase of Vitacost Holdings from
Vitacost.com.
HealthSquare.com was acquired from New Media Systems. All the companies are privately held and no purchase price was disclosed.
The purchase will allow the Choice Media Network — which is also a leading supplier of syndicated healthcare content to online portals — to offer additional sponsorship and advertising opportunities to pharmaceutical manufacturers, according to the company statement.
