Well, another example of how Europeans are ahead on sports right online and on mobiles, than U.S. where rights holders want to control it to the point that they don’t even do enough to make it available online or on mobiles.
In Europe, sports rights holders are giving access to the Olympics through certain ISPs, to control distribution to that country only, which I think is a smart way to go…
In U.S., they’ll have to settle for highlights posted after NBC broadcasts, which are already largely tape-delayed. On top of that, U.S. viewers must verify their identity using a credit card from Visa — an NBC advertiser — though they will not be charged. Not a Visa cardholder? You’re out of luck.
