Topix.net Gets Redesign

Topix.net, the online news search engine, has redesigned and tweaked its algorithm etc…

For me, Google News is still the overall favorite (though MSN’s Newsbot has some obscure sources no other news search engine has). Why, you ask? Well, again, for me, the number of ways to search is more important than zip-code aggregation or RSS feeds or other such frills.

Sure, Google News is broken and has a lot of polluted results…but here’s my simple equation: Google Search + Google News: makes sense. MSNBC.com + MSNBC.com Newsbot: makes sense again. Yahoo + Yahoo Finance + Yahoo News + Yahoo news search: makes great sense. Topix News: huh? Why?

Besides, here’s the dreaded phrase: where’s the money? This Clickz story says: “Topix.net’s revenue mix includes dough from Google AdSense local sponsored listings; conventional banner and skyscraper ads; and paid sponsorships.” I get it, but it ain’t happening, try as you may…besides some run of site advertising, and AdSense, it is very difficult to scale revenues with this…(on a related front, read my conspiracy theory here)

Of course, my sense is that it will ultimately get bought out by some poor soul like AskJeeves…
