Don’t get too excited yet: the deal is only on the $300 (after rebate) Nokia 6600 handsets, currently supported only by T-Mobile. The agreement with MLB Advanced Media gives Nokia the exclusive right, for the rest of the baseball season, to make available to cell phones live audio broadcasts of every MLB game, daily video highlights, game images, league news and up-to-the-minute standings and scores.
The package comes with a relatively high price tag–$7.99 per month.
Does it make any sense to tie-up with just one handset vendor, especially in U.S. where handset models are tied-up with specific carriers?
