(sub. req.): Popular community site Craigslist has begun to charge a $25 fee to post employment advertisements on its New York and Los Angeles sites. Such postings had been free, and the move represents the first new revenue stream for the company since it began charging for job postings on its San Francisco-area site six years ago.
The site also has other revenue streams on the drawing board…in 2005 the site could start charging for job postings in Boston, its next largest employment market. By early next year, Craigslist may also start charging New York real estate brokers to place apartment listings.
