Wanadoo Plans Online TV Launch in UK

(reg. req.): Wanadoo, the UK’s biggest ISP (owned by France Telecom), is planning to launch a new online VOD service next year and is set to begin partnership talks with pay-TV operators including BSkyB and NTL. It hopes to be able to offer channels such as Sky Sports and Sky One in addition to movies, music and big events to broadband subscribers.

Wanadoo has already launched a similar services in French cities Lyon and Paris, partnering with pay-TV companies such as Canal Plus.

Livebox Home Gateway: The company is also launching Livebox, a combined broadband and home entertainment device…priced £79.99, it will initially offer wireless broadband access throughout users’ homes as well as networked gaming through Sony’s PlayStation. By the end of the year, it will also offer a voice-over-the-internet calls service.
