Will Yahoo Be The Next Network?

The enternal question for Yahoo: how does Yahoo retain its audience, and get them to spend more time on its properties? And how does Yahoo continue to differentiate itself from everyone else on the Web?

One of the ways is to have more and more original content: Is there a Yahoo reality TV Internet channel or sports network down the road? It isn’t that farfetched an idea.

Of course, one original content experiment from Yahoo, FinanceVision, closed down in June 2002. But that was then…things have changed now, this story argues, with broadband adoption etc.

For now, Yahoo has targeted its sports, personal finance, and entertainment segments as places to develop original content. Yahoo also has a studio where Larry Beil, a former ESPN Sportcenter anchor, does sports broadcasts exclusively for the online media company.
