Amazon to Take Pre-Orders for Portable Media Center

Microsoft said on Thursday that Amazon.com will begin taking orders for Portable Media Centers, a new line of portable devices for listening to music and viewing video content. (More on PMCs here…).

It has also signed a deal with MLB, and baseball games and footage would be available for download to the devices, which are scheduled to be shipped later this summer. The pricing for the games has not been announced.

Creative’s Zen Portable Media Center and Samsung’s YH-999 can be pre-ordered for about $500, which each come with 20 gigabytes of storage for music, photos and video.

Seattle Times: The Portable Media Centers also take Microsoft a step further to creating an all-encompassing home-entertainment system built on its technology. The company has said it wants to be a leader in the home-entertainment business, with its Windows Media Center computer as the central hub for digital music and video.
