The world’s biggest manufacturer of pre-recorded DVD, VHS, CD-ROM,and other packaged media has said that the DVD format is here to stay, despite momentum for direct delivery over high-speed cable, fibre and satellite connections.
Cinram International, the Canadian company, made these pronouncements at its annual general meeting yesterday. “The consumer loves the packaged good,” Dave Rubenstein, president of Cinram Americas, said at the meeting.
Globe & Mail: The infrastructure necessary to deliver movies directly to homes will not exist for years to come. In addition, Hollywood studios and giant retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. make far too much money off DVDs and CDs to ever allow the physical products to be replaced, Rubenstein said.
