Muzak Gets $35 Million Financing

Muzak has gotten $35 million, and I’ll hold my puns. But seriously, the music programming company for businesses has received $35 million in senior secured financing from GE Commercial Finance’s Global Media & Communications.

The funding will be used to pay down the debts. The company is apparently making a turnaround and is hiring about 150 jobs at the company’s Fort Mill headquarters. According to this Charlotte Observer story, perhaps one of the biggest changes for the 70-year-old company has been the switch from Muzak’s reliance on voiceless instrumentals to original-artist material offered in more than 70 different formatted programs.
