So there’s more to the Starz launching this online movie service than meets the eye…read this story in TV Week by John Motavalli (who wrote a great book “Bamboozled at the Revolution: How Big Media Lost Billions in the Battle for the Internet“).
It is a political game between Starz on one side and HBO and Showtime on the other. And then, it is another game between pay cabler and movie studios. It goes beyond selling and streaming movies online. It also includes DVRs, and the dynamics of repacking content or developing original content.
For RealNetworks, it is about throwing everything against the wall and see what sticks…it also gives it some much needed lifeline as its own share in the media player market keeps shrinking…
