It is always interesting to see a company bet everything on one product or platform…in Macromedia’s case, it is Flash. It is betting the whole barn on Flash and related products and services, and it shows in how it is working on the enterprise side as well as mobile side.
The company’s hoping it will be the third leg in the mobile platform space, with Java, BREW and Flash being the third one. It is working furiously on developing the platform..among them, FlashCast is a mobile content delivery platform which it is selling to mobile operators.
The company hired Juha Christensen, the former head of Microsoft’s mobile phone division, earlier this year.
The expectation is that the mobile content products from Macromedia will trickle out during the next year or so, as the company’s trying to bring along telcos, handset manufacturers and content players along with its strategy.
Speaking of content, the company’s hiring a head of programming, looking after mobile content…it is looking for a senior media and entertainment industry executive to provide “the vision and leadership within programming and packaging, and to develop and execute a successful content strategy for Macromedia”. Watch this space closely for further coverage of the company…
