Opera Offers Mobile Proxy Server To Speed Up Wirless Web Serving

This is bound to be controversial, mainly because media companies may not like a browser company making changes to how their pages look, but it remains to be seen how it plays out.

Opera Mobile Accelerator is a new proxy-based solution that increases rendering speed on mobile devices up to 250%. It entails that all requested Internet traffic passes through an Opera server, where the Web pages are compressed, stripping out all unnecessary elements before they are downloaded to the handset.

The accelerator will be sold directly to consumers as subscription service, for about EUR 15 for 3 months. Besides this, the company plans to sell this to telecom operators wishing to offer its customers speedy downloads etc…
