That’s according to a Yankee viewpoint…here’s the gist of its argument: “Device convergence causes concern for content providers trying to maintain core revenue while independently growing other channels.”
It thinks that content providers must keep each platform distinct to expand these revenue streams and maintain their considerable power in the media value chain. Connecting the PC and the TV through a home network, for instance, enables consumers to pay for downloaded or streamed content to the PC and threatens their willingness to pay for content delivered to the TV through a set-top box.
