CNET’s Looking For Googlejuice

Over the last few days, CNET News.com has changed its URL structure, from the generic identifier, something like say this “http://news.com.com/2100-1027-995470.html” to putting in headlines wordings into the URL, something like this: “http://news.com.com/A+master+model+for+mobile+multimedia/2030-1069_3-5214681.html”.

If you’re wondering why they would do that, it is simple: to get more Googlejuice, or Yahoojuice etc. Search engine optimization, as they call it. In essence, trying to make their stories more search engine friendly, so that they can “compete” against a number of blogs which usually land up on top when you search for a tech news issue. Sometimes blogs linking to a News.com story land up ahead of News.com itself!
