Japanese Net company Softbank plans to buy the TV distribution operations of Movie Television, giving the company access to video content as it vies for leadership in Japan’s high-speed Internet services market.
The distributor has filed for bankruptcy protection with 38 billion yen ($355 million) of debt.
Softbank’s purchase may give it more video and music content to sell online in Japan’s high-speed. Rival NTT has allied with Walt Disney and other entertainment companies to provide games and video-clips. Softbank has 4 million users for its Yahoo! BB Internet service.
