Though I am not sure how relevant the comparisons are…According to RealNetworks, which is providing the streaming technology for the new liberal talk radio station (here’s why), over 2 million streams were delivered online for the network during its first week of broadcasting.
RealNetworks said that it delivered 50,000 concurrent streams on the network’s first day of broadcasting (March 31), which the company says makes it the highest-ever usage of the Real Broadcast Network for a “non-breaking news service.” It has been reported that ABC News’s coverage of the 9/11 attacks on September 12, 2001, hit 86,700 concurrent listeners.
Of course, that was three years ago, when broadband penetration was much much lower than it is now…things have changed a lot during the last three years…
