Broadcom, a provider of semiconductor solutions enabling broadband communications, has acquired Sand Video, a privately-held, Andover, Mass.-based company focused on the development of advanced video compression semiconductor technology for a broad range of consumer digital video applications.
BizJournals: Broadcom hopes the combined company will be able to bring to market new chips for digital TVs, set-top boxes and video conferencing equipment, among other items.
Broadcom is paying $7.4 million in cash and approximately $70 million in stock for Sand Video.
