Nokia’s Visual Radio to Be Launched in U.S. This Fall

A profile of the “visual radio” project by Nokia, for its new 7700 handsets…the enhanced-FM-radio-on-mobile service will become available in U.S. this fall…According to Reidar Wasenius, senior project manager of Nokia’s NMedia business unit, Visual Radio phones will not cost more than handsets with regular FM radios…there is no charge to consumers beyond their regular carrier fee.

TeliaSonera Finland’s Kiss FM already is running a trial of Visual Radio, before its imminent European rollout. Wasenius said Nokia already is in serious negotiations with major American broadcasters to offer the service as soon as the handsets become available in the United States.
