Mobile music recognition systems are the next big wavelet in the mobile content market…Shazam in UK, Gracenote and Musikube in US, Mobiquid in France, and a few others (I saw the demonstration of a similar technology–at Midem Music Festival in Cannes in Feb–from Fraunhofer Institute in Germany). And the VCs are buzzing too, with recent venture fundings of both Shazam and Gracenote…(For more on these companies, watch out for our March Mobile Music Report, due out later this week…you may want to check out our Feb Mobile Music Report in the meantime)
Now NTT in Japan has announced that it has developed
its own music-recognition technology and has built a prototype system
to demonstrate its capability. The company is now in the process of
creating a new mobile service based on the system.
Aimed at users of 3G mobile phones, NTT’s system
will allow users to search for the title of a song by holding their
phone up to an analog audio source such as a home or car stereo.
