Unbundling AOL

This is the second time I am using the exact same headline…the first time I used it, about 7 months ago, it was a more speculative, this-is-what-AOL-should-be-doing kind of headline, after Jeff Jarvis wrote about it on his blog.

It seems as if AOL is now taking this to heart, and embracing the more Open-Web, users-want-control-of-their-pieces approach. By relying more on the open framework of the Web, analysts say AOL can attract subscribers by selling, piecemeal, services like e-mail or chat rooms and creating a new model around providing users with “digital storage lockers” for videos, photos and music.

Right now this is a vaporware wish…let’s see how far they go, within the bundled and closed Time Warner mentality…
