Wal-Mart’s online music store has finally launched. As expected, it is selling digital downloads for 11 percent less than major competitors, at 88 cents per song. Wal-Mart began testing the site in December.
CBS MarketWatch: Apple’s getting arrogant: “It is difficult to imagine anyone ever catching up with us,” said an Apple spokeswoman.
Also, interestingly, Wal-Mart is not carrying explicit songs which it bars in-store anyway…The catalog does not carry “stickered” albums and for some musicians – including rapper 50 Cent – almost every other song is listed as “edited.” That may play against it…
