So now Glaser is making the cross-compatibility plea? He said in a panel discussion Tuesday at PC Forum here that Apple is creating problems for itself by using a file format that forces consumers to buy music from Apple’s own iTunes site.
“Apple’s (market) share will go down if they continue to do this,” Glaser said. “The only way to presently put songs on an iPod is to (buy) them from iTunes.”
Update: Jason Calacanis is blogging from PC Forum, and has some notes on Glaser’s comments: “Steve Jobs has decided not to license the API for iPod. Basically, what people say about Apple is they are a great innovator but they get caught up in proprietary in their approach. Apple will go down to it’s historic single digital level of market share. #2: the market is slowing down: I bought an ipod and I can use it only in one store…’what is this communist Russia?’ This is bad for Apple, their market share will go down inexorably.”
