SmartServ, a mobile content development company which bought out mobile content vending company nReach recently, will debut the machine at Best Buy, Radio Shack and convenience stores in the next three months.
The company has tied up with Merit Industries, a develpoper of touchscreen entertainment devices. Some of the existing 6,000 Merit amusement machines will also be used in vending the mobile content.
By using the vending machines and other new technologies, entertainment companies avoid the usual tight control over wireless downloads and profit sharing practiced by major U.S. cell phone service providers.
