(via John Blossom): Factiva, feeling the pressure from open-Web services likes Google, and lower priced servcies like HighBeam and KeepMedia, is revamping its interface: Non-specialist users who want to access information quickly will be offered a new Start Page, while information professionals and research specialists who want to dig deeper into Factiva’s databases can now choose an Advanced Search interface, which is a revamped version of the current Factiva.com interface.
Factiva uses the Alta Vista search engine, which it says it is still happy with, and has stripped out some features in order to improve performance.
Blossom says: “If there’s any boldness in the move it’s that Factiva is beginning to focus in on the real battle at hand for content aggregators: how to appeal to a generation of users who expect content services to be as convenient as possible and to anticipate their needs and interests whenever feasible.”
