Indo-Pak Cricket Series Online Rights Go Fo Piffling $300,000

Seriously, I could have bought it for that money…ok, maybe me and some other rich financier with some loose change, but you get the point…the historic Indian cricket tour to Pakistan, starting in about 10 days, has whipped up frenzied media interest in the region and cricket fans. The Pakistan Cricket Board has signed sponsorship deals worth $21 million; Dubai-based Taj Entertainment Network (which runs Ten Sports TV channel) had paid $ 13.3 million for the TV rights of the series…

And what does the online right for this series get: a piffling $300,000..keep in mind that this are the video streaming right, and very likely, these matches would be streamed live through the Ten site or affiliates…and if you think of the huge interest among the huge Indo-Pak immigrant community worldwide, it will rake in the dollars, for sure…each one-day match will cost upwards of $10, for sure..

Hence my argument…the licensing rights should have been more expensive…
